CITY OF PASADENA
Turning Heads (& Filling Bellies) With a Fake Ad for Pasadena Streetfest
With years of experience supporting civic initiatives, we understand how to make local events resonate. Our campaign for Pasadena’s inaugural street festival combined inventive augmented reality creative and targeted media to spark conversation, rally the community, and draw food lovers from across the city.
Civic & Nonprofit
Summary
When the City of Pasadena launched its first-ever Dine Out Pasadena Streetfest, the stakes were high: Drive attendance, celebrate local restaurants, and do it all with a lean marketing budget.
That’s where Echo-Factory came in.
As a Pasadena-based agency with deep experience in civic and public-sector campaigns, we knew exactly how to deliver maximum impact with minimal spend.
Our approach? Creative that people don’t skip; they share.
At the heart of the campaign was a scroll-stopping tactic: Fake Out-of-Home (FOOH).
What’s FOOH?
FOOH is the digital illusion of large-scale public advertising. Think: London tubes and double-deckers with beautiful eyelashes (for Maybelline) or maybe Big Ben wearing The North Face. Clever outdoor campaigns generated with CGI, which look real enough to pause your scroll and clever enough to make you hit share.
We paired that high-impact creative with a paid social campaign, amplifying visibility without ballooning the budget.
The results:
- FOOH accounted for 93% of all engagement.
- The overall engagement rate hit 60%.
- Organic and paid reach helped drive strong Streetfest turnout and community buzz.
And the event delivered. Eleven restaurants unveiled new or enhanced outdoor dining; the streets filled with music, conversation, and more than 3k diners in a single afternoon; and the city saw its investment in local business and culture come to life.
As an agency, we’re proud to support the place we call home. And as a partner to civic clients, we’re committed to delivering campaigns that are creative, strategic, and measurable.
