Every once in a while (generally while reading Sarah Vowell) I get all excited about living in a country with a democratic process. Which is why I was particularly excited to find a list of some thousand-odd reasons to get out and vote in the latest issue of GOOD magazine.

A few of my personal favorites:

  • 2. Arugula prices at Whole Foods aren’t going to lower themselves.
  • 101. 20 percent of NYU students polled recently said they’d give up their right to vote in 2008 for an iPod Touch. A [redacted] iPod Touch.
  • 112. Great Britain is still looking for evidence that our little experiment didn’t work out. Don’t help them along.
  • 189. Like Don Quixote, we believe in fighting windmills.
  • 647. “When the world goes up in flames, there will be one less reason to feel responsible.” Errol Morris, documentary filmmaker
  • 789. Your vote is just as important as that of a self-righteous Hollywood A-lister or an impassioned AM radio blowhard.
  • 1118-1127. The Bill of Rights was really well-written.
